Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) consists of an alpha and beta subunit with a combined molecular weight of 39.5 kDa, and pI 4.9. The alpha subunit is identical to that of FSH and LH. HCG assays are used for the diagnosis and monitoring of tumours of the testis and of the ovary.
