Description
Viscous Red? is soluble in more non-polar media than our other viscosity probes. It can be excited from 400-500 nm in most solvents and > 500 nm, in slightly higher polarity solvents, such as ethanol, ethyl acetate? etc. In ethanol, the emission maximum of Viscous Red? is > 600 nm. Similar to our other viscosity probes, the emission intensity of Viscous Red? increases as a function of increasing solution/media viscosity, making it an excellent fluorescence-based viscosity probe. The lifetime of Viscous Red? is also viscosity dependent, making the probe ideal for FLIM (Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy). Viscous Red? is well-suited for the viscosity determination of oils and plastics.
Viscous Red? is sold dry and is simply reconstituted by adding solvent. One vial of our Viscosity Probe will typically allow for 10 measurements to be undertaken, when further diluted into 3 cm3 volumes within a cuvette. A detailed reconstitution procedure is provided in our data sheets which are shipped with the probe vials.
For optimum performance, probe vials should be stored at -2 to -8 C when not being used. Probe solutions should be used after dilution.
